Channing Tatum Was Horrified By the Brock Turner Sentencing

June 23, 2016

'I just couldn't believe it'

Channing Tatum, actor, dancer and proud feminist, is just as shocked by the Brock Turner ruling as the rest of the world.

“I think it’s a horrible idea to let someone off because possibly of what they are going to be capable of doing,” he said of Turner during a Q&A with Cosmopolitan editor-in-chief Joanna Coles at Cannes Lions. “If you start doing that, where do you stop? Where is that line? I don’t think it’s right. I think he should have been punished, personally.”

Brock Turner made headlines this month after he was sentenced to six months of jail for sexually assaulting a woman at a Stanford party. Many critics felt that the sentence was too lenient, and there is now a petition to remove the presiding judge Aaron Persky from office.

“I just couldn’t believe it,” Tatum said. “It’s like if you killed someone and got caught red-handed and just because you went to a nice school, and you were a good swimmer, you somehow get a lesser sentence. That just doesn’t make any sense.”

It doesn’t make any sense to us either, Channing.
