On Wednesday morning, Hillary Clinton officially conceded the election to Donald Trump in an emotional speech. She urged her supporters to give Trump “an open mind” and to unite together to move the country forward. She also took time to address the historic nature of her campaign, where she was poised to become the first female president of the United States.
“I know that we haven’t shattered that highest and hardest glass ceiling, but someday someone will,” Clinton said. “And to all the little girls who are watching this, never doubt that you are valuable and powerful and deserving of every opportunity in the world to pursue and achieve your own dreams.”
Twitter quickly shared its feelings on her concession speech, many using the hashtag #StillWithHer or #imstillwithher to show their continuing support:
America might not have its first woman president right now. But as Clinton said in her speech, someday we will. And when that day comes, it will undoubtedly be due to her contributions to our nation’s democracy.
