Jennifer Lawrence Tells Women to ‘Be Loud’ After Election

Nov. 10, 2016

'Do not let this defeat you — let this enrage you'

A number of Hillary Clinton supporters and feminists are taking the results of the election and turning them into a push for change and now Jennifer Lawrence is joining in on the battle cry. In an article for Broadly, Lawrence offers her advice on what like-minded people can do to do affect change.

“We shouldn’t blame anyone, we shouldn’t riot in the streets. We should think strongly and clearly about what to do next because we cannot change the past,” Lawrence wrote. “If you’re worried about the health of our planet, find out everything you can about how to protect it. If you’re worried about racial violence love your neighbor more than you’ve ever tried to before — no matter what they believe or who they voted for. If you’re afraid of a wall putting us all into another recession then organize and stand against it.”

She also speaks to some of the emotional aftermath, and what her followers can do to channel their reactions. “Do not let this defeat you — let this enrage you! Let it motivate you! Let this be the fire you didn’t have before. If you are an immigrant, if you are a person of color, if you are LGBTQ+, if you are a woman — don’t be afraid, be loud!”

Lawrence has previously spoken out women’s issues: Earlier this year, she said she wanted to redefine the “normal” body type to challenge beauty norms, and last year she tackled the wage gap issue in an essay for Lenny.
