The 2017 Pirelli Calendar was launched in Paris on Friday, featuring a star-studded line-up celebrating women of all ages including Nicole Kidman, Lupita Nyong’o, Charlotte Rampling and Zhang Ziyi.
The iconic calendar’s 44th edition is entitled ‘Emotional‘, with black-and-white shots by renowned photographer Peter Lindbergh displaying intimate portraits of 14 of the world’s most famous women, spanning six decades.
Oscar-winner Alicia Vikander was, at 28, the youngest star to take part in the shoot, while celebrated British actress Helen Mirren is the oldest woman featured in the calendar at the age of 71. In an interview with London’s Evening Standard, Nicole Kidman said “This is a fantastic time to be captured, at 49 years old. [Lindbergh] has captured that, what it is to be 49… I love that the calendar has all ages of women, I love that.”
“I wanted to show women in a different way: I did this by asking actresses who have always played an important role in my life and to try and get as close to them as possible through my photos,” Lindbergh said. One non-actress is featured in the calendar as a special guest: Anastasia Ignatova, a Political Theory professor at Moscow State University.
A behind-the-scenes look at the calendar’s creation, which was shot in five different locations, shows the women featured speaking about the experience of being photographed by Lindbergh. “I walked in with no make up on and wet hair, and he [Lindbergh] said ‘No, that’s perfect,'” said Julianne Moore.
