Beyoncé Announces ‘Formation Scholars’ Program

April 25, 2017

In order to 'encourage and support young women'

Calling all “bold, creative, conscious, and confident” women. In honor of the one-year anniversary of Beyoncé‘s groundbreaking visual album Lemonade, the singer announced on her website a new initiative called “Formation Scholars,” which will go into effect for the 2017-2018 academic year.

The premise of Beyoncé’s scholarship program is to “encourage and support young women who are unafraid to think outside the box.” The funding, however, does not apply to every university in the country. Participating schools include Berklee College of Music, Howard University, Parsons School of Design and Spelman College.

One undergraduate or graduate female student at each school who is studying creative arts, African-American studies, music or literature will be granted a scholarship.
